Reward Points and Response Rate Variables
Q_Panel provides a number of variables allowing you to examine the activity of each panel member over various time periods (one month, two months, three months, six months and twelve months).
- The number of reward points earned over the time periods.
- Counts of the number of invitations made and the calculated response rate which could allow the identification of low-responders.
- Actual interview duration compared to the expected interview length to calculate the average and median difference in interview length for each panel member, which could allow the identification of speeders.
The variables from these views are typically found in the Invites, Completes and Completion Rate folder within the Profile Variables folder (but could be different in your installation).
These variables can be used in various ways, but would typically be used
- in Panel Manager to create filters or examine panellist data
- in CrossTab as displayed rows or columns or filters
- as dimension, filters or output columns within Sample Manager
Note that the time period is based on the date the variable is used. For example, if the Reward Points Earned (Last Month) is examined on 20/06/2016 it will only return rewards earned between the dates 21/05/2016 and 20/06/2016.
Reward Points
As well as the variables containing the reward points earned over the time periods, there are some other Reward Point variables within Q_Panel. The table below gives a description of all the standard reward point variables available.
Name | Level/Hierarchy | Description |
Total Reward Points | Panellist | Total number of reward points earned minus total number of reward points claimed. |
Reward Points Earned (Last Month) | Panellist | Total number of reward points earned in the last month. |
Reward Points Earned (Last 2 Months) | Panellist | Total number of reward points earned in last 2 months. |
Reward Points Earned (Last 3 Months) | Panellist | Total number of reward points earned in last 3 months. |
Reward Points Earned (Last 6 Months) | Panellist | Total number of reward points earned in last 6 months. |
Reward Points Earned (Last 12 Months) | Panellist | Total number of reward points earned in last 12 months. |
Reward Points – CH | Contact History | Number of reward points (final value) earned for taking part in survey. |
Reward Points - EH | Event History |
Number of reward points awarded/rescinded for an event (this can include survey reward points).

Invites, Completes and Completion Rates
The variables in the table below are response rates designed to count samples that have been closed, and therefore are only relevant for samples where each panellist has been backfed with an outcome code. Any panellist that has not been backfed for a given sample will not be included in the counts and response rate statistics.
This is done so that response rates are accurate. To include those invited where the sample has not been closed (or the panellist does not yet have an outcome code) would mean the system reporting inaccurate response rates.
These variables are available for the time periods: Last Month, Last 2 Months, Last 3 Months, Last 6 Months and Last 12 Months.
Name | Description |
Total Invites (Last n months) | The number of times the panellist has been invited for interview within the time period. |
Total Completes (Last n months) | The number of times the panellist has completed an interview within the time period. |
Total Willing To Complete (Last n months) | The number of times the panellist has either completed an interview or been willing to complete an interview within the time period. |
Completion Rate (Last n months) | The percentage of completed interviews within the time period. i.e. Total Completes/Total Invites × 100 |
Response Rate (Last n months) | The percentage of interviews that the panellist either completed or was willing to complete. i.e. Total Willing to Complete/Total Invites × 100 |
Interview Lengths
The variables in the table below compare the actual duration of a completed interview with the expected duration of the interview as defined in the Expected Interview Length field in the sample project (or prototype).
The difference between these is calculated as :
Diff Interview Length = Actual Interview Length – Expected Interview Length
These variables are available for the time periods: Last Month, Last 2 Months, Last 3 Months, Last 6 Months and Last 12 Months.
Name | Description |
Completes with Int Length Specified (Last n months) | The number of completed interviews within the time period, where both the Actual Interview Length and Expected Interview Length values exist. |
Average Diff IntLength v Expected (Last n month) | The average Diff Interview Length within the time period, where Diff Interview Length is calculated as: Actual Interview Length – Expected Interview Length |
Median Diff IntLength v Expected (Last n month) | The median Diff Interview Length within the time period, where Diff Interview Length is calculated as: Actual Interview Length – Expected Interview Length |
