Searching for variables in Q_Panel and Crosstab

To find a variable using the search function, enter the text you want to search for, select the appropriate search type and click on the Search button.

In the example below, only variables which contain the text ‘newspaper’ are displayed.  Both the variable name and question text are used in the search, so although DailyNews does not contain the word ‘newspaper’, the question text does.

If using Crosstab the screen will look as follows:

The question text can be seen when the mouse is hovered over the variable.

If using Crosstab the screen will look as follows:

By default, the search type is Contains, but this can be changed by selecting another search type from the drop-down list.

Search Type Description
Begins With Returns all variables where the variable name or question text begins with the characters entered.
Contains Returns all variables where the variable name or question text contains the characters entered.
Ends With Returns all variables where the variable name or question text ends with the letter or letters entered.
Exactly Returns all variables where the variable name or question text matches exactly the characters entered.
Sounds Like Returns all variables where the variable name or question text sounds like the characters entered.  This type of search is useful for finding variables where the exact spelling is not known, or may have been entered wrongly in the database.

Click on the Reset button to clear the search and show all variables again.

Note:
  1. When searching for variables in Sample Manager, only the Profile Variables folder and sub-folders are used in the search.  You cannot currently search within the Named Dimensions or Lookups folders.
  2. When searching for variables in Crosstab, only variables in the Profile Variables folder and sub-folders will be searched.  You cannot currently search within the Metadata folder.
