Metadata Manager

This is used for maintaining the user-defined fields which appear on the metadata tab of prototypes and sample projects.

Click on Metadata Manager from the Maintenance menu:

Click on New to add new metadata, or on a name to get the Edit Metadata Manager dialog:

Field Description
Name Text
Value type, Metadata Codes
Choose from a dropdown list of Boolean, Date, Multiple Code, Numeric, Single Code and Text, for the Value type. With the Multiple Code and Single Code types enter the allowable code values in the Metadata Codes panel lower down.
Custom Validation By default no custom validation is required.  Additional client specific validation can be implemented. Contact the QuenchTec support team for more information.
Allow use in Prototypes or Allow use in Samples Specify the level at which the metadata item’s value is to be entered by the user.
Allow use in Activity Filtering Depending on the nature of the metadata item it may be appropriate to make it available for use in an Activity Filter.
Deny editing in Prototypes which are in use If you change a prototype metadata item’s value the new value is not changed for the prototype’s existing sample projects.  Select this option to prevent the user from changing the metadata item’s value once any of a prototype’s sample projects is in progress. This ensures a single value across a prototype’s projects.
Usage is mandatory The user will need to supply a value.
Exclude value from copy This forces the user to enter a new value for projects or prototypes created using the Copy toolbar button.

Metadata fields may be deleted using Metadata Manager, but are not permanently removed from the database. A deleted metadata field will not appear in the metadata selection dialog in Sample Manager.

To delete a metadata field, select it by clicking on the checkbox next to its name, then click on Delete in the toolbar.

View deleted metadata fields by clicking the Show Deleted checkbox. Metadata fields that have been deleted can be made available again using the Undo Delete button in the toolbar.
